🗂️Infrastructure Masons Report Out Now💰 Bay Area Startups Collectively Secured $6.1B+ in July MTD


The 2026 iMasons State of the Digital Infrastructure Industry Report is now live. Their document captures an industry expanding at a pace rarely seen outside major waves of industrial development. Drawing on input from nearly 2,000 industry leaders, the report places AI infrastructure inside a much larger system shaped by power, policy, labor, capital, community support, and long-term demand for digital services.
The scale of the buildout is difficult to overstate. Digital infrastructure has become a global industry spanning thousands of data centers, with most planned capacity still waiting to be built.

AI demand is driving larger projects on shorter timelines. Development schedules that once stretched 24 to 36 months are being compressed to 12 to 18 months, while individual AI campuses are growing from hundreds of megawatts to multiple gigawatts. That combination of speed and scale intensifies pressure across the entire supply chain. Equipment backlogs are growing, construction timelines are slipping, and local labor markets are being asked to support projects that may require more than 10,000 workers on-site each day for several years.

Power remains the industry's defining constraint. Delayed grid connections are pushing developers toward bridge power solutions while utilities race to expand generation and transmission capacity.
Policy now touches almost every part of the buildout. It shapes data protection, power access, workforce development, permitting, environmental standards, water use, and the way communities experience new development. Regions with stable regulation and clear approval pathways are gaining an advantage, particularly as traditional data center hubs face tighter power markets and longer development cycles.
Community support has become a material factor in project viability. More than $150 billion in U.S. data center projects were delayed or blocked in 2025, reinforcing how local concerns increasingly shape where and how infrastructure gets built.

Geography is becoming a competitive advantage. Regions able to align power, regulation, capital, connectivity, and community support are attracting the next wave of AI investment.
The report leaves a clear impression of where the industry is heading. AI infrastructure is becoming a coordinated industrial system. Data centers sit at the center, but the outcome depends on transmission lines, tradespeople, utilities, regulators, investors, and communities moving together. The regions that align those pieces will shape the next phase of global AI development.

Bay Area Startups Collectively Secured $2.7B+ in July MTD
July just got busy, with Fireworks AI's $1.5B Series D the largest of nine megadeals, spread across AI, applied AI, fintech and biotech.
Not NVIDIA: Coreweave pioneered the use of GPUs as collateral in corporate financing. AI inference startup General Compute is now the first to use the SambaNova inference specific RDUs as collateral for a $400M loan. The loan is on top of the $15M seed round CEO Finn Puklowski raised in May to build an inference neocloud with the SambaNova silicon. The RDUs are power-efficient and don't require water cooling, so they can be deployed more quickly across a larger variety of data centers. General Compute says their neocloud will provide inferencing 16 times faster than a GPU cloud.

Quadric.io closed a $18M Series C, the inference engine inside on-device AI chips.
